1. A dissemination area (DA) is a small, relatively stable geographic unit composed of one or more adjacent dissemination blocks. It is the smallest standard geographic area for which all census data are disseminated. DAs cover all the territory of Canada.Area that is small and relatively stable. Census tracts usually have a population of 2,500 to 8,000. They are located in large urban centres that must have an urban core population of 50,000 or more.
2. Each dissemination area is assigned a four-digit code. In order to uniquely identify each dissemination area in Canada, the two digit province/territory code and the two-digit CD code must precede the DA code. Each census tract is assigned a seven-character numeric ‘name’ (including leading zeros, the decimal point and trailing zeros). To uniquely identify each census tract in its corresponding census metropolitan area or tracted census agglomeration, the three-digit CMA/CA code must precede the CT ‘name’. The goverment can keep track of the population.
3. Any splits occurring after this would be numbered in a similar fashion, with the next sequential number. This allows users to re-aggregate the splits to the original census tract.

“Prisoners of conscience” are men, women or children imprisoned solely for the peaceful expression of their beliefs or because of their race, gender or other personal characteristics. Many have never been charged with a crime. Amnesty seeks the immediate release of all prisoners of conscience.

Child Labour Lab
1. The continent of Africa. Because you can get more years of work out of them.

3. The differance between child labour and child work is one is getting a wage and the other is getting to eat.

We did a new lab today that we could only complete one part of it. We had a test yesterday to make a map. Went to a lecture the other day the first one after reading week. The test last week was a tough one too.

Assignment 14

1. Dem is a digital representation of topograghy model based on scale of original data.
2. Dem is useful to determine aspects of terrain, slope, spot elevations and a source for contour lines.
3. Sinks and Spires are the high elevation points and the low elevation points.
4. The “Z” factor is the number of ground x,y units in one surface z unit which is elevation.
5. You must know the Z and the horizontal units because if the the run and the rise are in different units the results will be wrong.
6. The altitude and azimuth is important for hill shade because of the angular direction of the sun measured from north in a clockwise degrees from 0 to 360 and 90 is east and the default is 315 NW.

1. Generalization is based on models for a specific purpose at a given scale.
2. Sugar loaves are idealized depiction from a side oblique view. Hachures are using lines of varying width and length to depict slop steepness, drawn in direction of steepest slope.
3. Three early ways to show relief on a map hill shading , contour lines , colour sceams.
4. The advantages are it is the most commensurable (quantitative) method

it is the origin for many (most?) other depiction techniques, and it is now familiar to many users. Disadvantages are it is an abstract method (there are no counterpart to lines on ground);poorly suited to small scales

less imageable but depending on: contour interval, map scale, landscape type, and users’ experience.
5.The common methods for contours lines obtained by cutting terrain horizontally with imaginary planes in equal intervals. Isobath: lines of equal water depth. Hypsometic tints: the space between the lines are colour coded.
6. It is better to combine relief methods because it makes a better map to show depth and hight.

1. REGISTRATION is where you put the points on the map and line up the streets. RECTIFY is when you make a new layer.
2a. The approximate resolution are 1841, 1874.
2b. The utms are 7.9, 23.3, 23.7.
3. The georeference an image so you can make accurate maps of an area.

1. Aerial potography was first practiced by Nadar.
2. The first pioneer to lead aerial photography being caught on in Canada is E.G. DEVILLE.
3. By the 1920′s regular photography flights for mapping and forestry inventory had been established across the country.
4. An Orthophotos is an aerial photograph that is planimetrically corrected.
5. The distorions are plane movement, radial displacement, relief displacement.

New Lab

1. The shape and appearance of the boundry has changed because the map is not so squished.
1b. The true coordinate system is gcs_ CLARK _1866 Datum_D_Clark_1866.
2a. The Albert Equal Area Projection is not appropriate to view the entire world.
3. BC. Albers is closer to the true area of the polygon.
4. You would reporject your data frame in the begining.
5. The scale of the data set for the little maps are 1a is 1:22, 1b is 1:19, 1c is 1:18 1d is 1:18.
